Alavardo is a small town whos main income is driven from I-35W. Be very careful from the I-35W business exit until you cross almost into Hill county. Posted at 65 day and night---Do it!!! Heavy DPS and city cop enforcement. As you near Greensville-Barnsville off ramp, check the median. You will see where the cops like to cross into the opposite direction and tag whoever. Especially bad northbound. Cops hide behind overpass---this overpass is not even in Alvarado city limits (unless recently annexed) but city cops still tag here. Especially bad on weekends and holidays, also on known drug route. If you "profile", expect to have your vehicle searched. Do not play with Alvarado or DPS. You will end up in the "Seven bar saloon" overnight.
Comment (11/2002): Alvarado utilizes temporary officers quite often. I have received 3 citations that were all dismissed when the reserve officer was no longer working for the department and would not show up in court. These were all on different occasions.
Comment (12/2002): To my knowledge the Alvarado Police Dept. has not had a reserve officer for many years. so the incident that occured on 3 different occasions must either have not happended or you are mistaken on why the citation was dismissed. If you do not enjoy getting a citation just to what the law says and you will have no problems. If your in a hurry to get somewhere leave earlier. That way you will be on time and you won't be forced to pay the city of alvarado. enjoy you stay next time.
Comment (12/2002): This is a pretty consistent speedtrap area, usually running from I-35W mile marker 27 to 15 (Alvarado south to the Hill County line). This and the Valley View area comprise the two major speed traps I've encountered on I-35 in Texas. Thankfully I must admit that I have yet to contribute to Alvarado's burgeoning police revenues.
Comment (5/2002): This town is well-known for it's corruption. Even when obeying the speed limit, it is possible to get a ticket for "construction" despite no construction area being present.
Comment (7/2002): Be careful if you are exiting off of 35W southbound onto 67 going toward Cleburne, the speed limit is 45 M.P.H. to Baker Lane, which is about 2 miles away. The speed limit sign is to the right of the acceleration lane and you will be looking left to merge into traffic, so you won't see the sign. And the Alvarado Police Dept. doesn't care.
Comment (7/2002): Please beware when traveling through this area (and in town) if you are pulling a trailer of any kind (flat bed, cattle etc..) as the police here are known for doing u-turns at the drop of a hat just to chase down a vehicle pulling "anything". They check to make sure you have all the proper tags and chains attached.
Comment (7/2002): It sounds to me like some people just don't like obeying the law. I have lived in Alvarado and never gotten a ticket. Maybe driving the speed limit does pay off. If you don't want a ticket, drive the speed limit. Very simple.
Comment (7/2002): How can a small economically deprived town afford eleven patroleman and new patrol cars. No wonder so many tickets have to be written.
Comment (8/2002): have you ever seen what a trailor coming off of a hitch can do to a 4 year old childs head at 50 mph? I have its not to easy to sleep at night so, yes If you have a trailer make sure the chains are on and if its not tagged you shouldnt pull it because that makes insurance invalid if you do have an accident. well unfortunately we all have to have insurance and registration. I have to pay for it and I am not whinning, so why cant you? If your not smart enough to obey laws stay at home the world doesnt want to hear you cry because you dont want to follow rules. obey the laws and you wont have any problems!
Comment (10/2002): I saw today 3 Alvarado cop cars working the northbound side in assblaey line fashion. It was kinda intresting watching them. One of those Wham, bam, thank you sir/mam things.
Comment (10/2002): I have not had a speeding ticket in over 15 years until last Saturday when I exited I35 onto highway 67 heading toward Cleburn. I just is'nt right that a city can get away with traps like this. I will never spend a dime in the city of Alverado.
Comment (2/2003): 2/2003 As a resident of Alvarado since 1999, I have found the PoliceDept a fine bunch of officers, they will not target you...If you arenot obeying the speed laws..you deserve a ticket. Alvarado is a smalltown yes, but full of great people who value their area and want it to be safe. The accidents that take the lives of our children and residents are precious to us, slow down and remember, policemen Are your friends. They protect and man do they serve! Thanks to the Alvarado police who put their lives in danger for it's citizens.
Comment (2/2003): First let me state, I see absolutely zero reason for speeding and believe in zero tolerance. However, that does not justify the town of Alvarado. Obviously the people who live in Alvarado are defending the corruption of their local officers. and government. Almost anything will get you pulled over ihn this town if you are not a resident, easily discovered by license plate numbering. Long hair and a beard will "profile" you for stopping, young (20's or under) in a nice or expensive car will get you stopped. Running 2 to 3 miles under the limit will get you stopped. An older model car will get you stopped. And the list goes on and on. The fact is, without I-35 and US67 Alvarado could not survive.
Comment (2/2003): I have lived in Alvarado for 17 years. Yeah, it is a speed trap. That's why I don't speed. Now you know it is a speed trap, so don't speed there and you won't have to worry about getting the ticket. They are just trying to keep our community safe from potentially reckless drivers. I don't mind it one bit.
Comment (2/2003): Be very careful on this stretch of I-35. One of the worst things you can do is exit off here. They are watching for the smallest thing to get you.
Comment (3/2003): I drive through this area frequently, both day and night. I've never seen any police working radar along here. I also drive at the posted speed.
Comment (6/2003): alvarado is nothing but a speed trap the dps even knows that the judge is going to make you pay I travel I 35 all the time and see the locals writing tickets, on the freeway really protecting the local taxpayers and store owners from the speed demons on I 35, never had a ticket from them and I will not exit and shop or get gas in there town.
Comment (6/2003): watch out if your cruisin southbound into hill co. also, from about the 10 mile marker to the 6, the town of Itasca has there PD unit workin the interstate. The town itself is actually about 1.5 miles of the interstate, but the city limits strech to the freeway
Comment (8/2003): No BS - the stretch of 67 between I35 and Cleburne is a trap. Period.
Comment (8/2003): Sounds to me like the Alvarado Police Dept. is hard at work just doing their job. Keep up the good work guys.
Comment (9/2003): I drive this route to Central and South Texas every week...and I see a cop in this section of 35W probably 3 out of 4 or 5 weeks in a month, usually heavier after the middle part to end part of the month. It is a trap forreal. If you must drive above 65 in this place, do it in the right hand lane as I have seen folks in the left hand lane get pulled often (I think they use "Rolling Radar").
Comment (10/2003): I have lived in Alvarado all of my life and yes I have received a few speeding tickets in MY town....and guess what I deserved each and everyone that I received. So the moral of this story is if you don't want a ticket obey the traffic laws and don't speed! Local Law Enforcement keep up the good work!
Comment (11/2003): Speed trap pure and simple. Warning : Do not exit. Slow down cross your fingers
Comment (12/2003): I actually detour around Alvarado most of the time, i have other ways of getting to Cleburne from the n.e. 1 mile an hour over the limit will get you a ticket
Comment (4/2004): I drive though Alavarado 2 or 3 times a week, and I see the cops or DPS about once a week sometimes more. Watch out for unmarked cars. A lot of the small town from Alavardo and south on 35W have unmarked cars.

ANYWHERE between mile mark 20 and 30 you are likely to find at least a couple locals, as well as frequent black and whites. It's got just enough hill to the road to allow for easy hiding places. In recent months, in cooperation with the Fed. Crime Patrols, it is not uncommon to find 12-20 cars from different departments doing everything from writing tickets, to emptying trucks on the side of the road.

Speed trap is on east and west Hwy.67 throughout city limits. The speed limit drops from 65 to 45. The cops shoot radar exactly at the sign. They do not ask questions, they write the ticket without any comment.
