Beware, the City of ALBANY, TEXAS has a revenue Stream! And remember, this is the "City" police I am referring to, NOT county law officers (which seem to be excellent and professional), and NOT Texas DPS state troopers (which are excellent and professional), but Albany City Policemen, and Albany City JP. They give no warnings, just ticket$, and the Honorable JP's fine$ are very costly. They get you anywhere in or around town, but their favorite is just at the edge of town when you are coming into the city from East/West US HWY 180 and North/South State Hwy 183. The city officer waits just at the edge of town, where speed signs start you to slowing down coming into town from 70 MPH then 55 MPH, and then real quick is the 45MPH. The 45 MPH sign is just a small distance from the last 55 MPH sign. If you are one are two miles over the limit, and you always will be in that short span of signs,YOUR going to be over the speed limit. There has been no warning cititations. Just tickets. Plain and simple, its a city "REVENUE STREAM." A typical rural Texas city SPEED TRAP! Boycott the city merchants. Just pass on through, and v-e-r-y slowly.

Comment (3/2003): I was given a warning just west of Albany on US 180/ State Highway 6. It was at night, and I was going downhill. It was a state trooper who pulled me over, and He gave me a warning for going 69 in a 65.

Comment (6/2003): I was pulled over at hwy 183 coming out of Albany 3x, 2 warnings and finally a ticket. Cute HwyPO first 2 warnings. Third time big gray-haired, overweight HwyPO...darn. I was always going entirely too fast.

Comment (6/2003): Beware! We've been screwed here 4x in the past 2 yrs (one time I had it comming) but the others were questionable. The best part is if you plead not guilty and go to court you have the option of paying an additional $50 on top of your ticket amount, be good for 30 seconds, they won't put it on your record! $$$ for Albany!

While driving through Albany, TX, on my way from Carlsbad, NM to Dallas, a sheriff's patrol car pulled out of a convenience store parking lot. I was obeying the speed limit (45) at the time. However, I was driving a car not real common in rural Texas (Pontiac Vibe), with a logo of a Dallas dealership. The deputy followed behind me, first right behind me, then hiding behind a pickup truck in back of me, all the way to the east line of Shackelford County, where he turned around. It was obvious he was trolling for a speeding ticket from a city man.
