Speed limit is 35 mph going east from the town of West Point at 5000 W. At 3000 W., after entering the town of Clinton, it drops to 30 mph, then changes to back to 35 mph again at 1000 W. after entering Clearfield. This two mile stretch is a common stopping place for Clinton Police or Davis County Sheriff's vehicles, who nabbed me for going 6 miles over. $82 fine and goes on your record. It's easy to miss the change in speed limit, especially if you've been cruising along at 35 for two miles already. Unusual for an east-west corridor to have two different speed limits, with no change in density, mostly farmland. Natural speed trap.

Comment (9/2006): Clinton City loves to give tickets and they are notorious in this community. I have even predicted when someone has committed a traffic violation that there will be lights real soon, sure enough they were in our rearview mirror.

Comment (9/2006): It no longer changes back to 35 mph at 1000 W. It now is 30 mph all the way to Main St.

Comment (10/2006): I agree that Clinton City loves to give tickets. Even if you're not speeding, if they see you and are bored they'll run a check on you drivers license. In my case I was on may way to get my nails done (1800 N/2000 W - by Walmart). Somewhere along the way (I believe he was in the church parking lot at 1500 W 1800 N, an officer saw me, ran a check, and the report came back that I didn't have auto insurance. Wrong! I'm parked at the nail place, getting my purse, and all of a sudden someone's knocking loudly on my window. It's the officer, lights flasing and all. It took me almost having to call my insurance company before he would admit he'd made a mistake. In the mean time my nail lady was having second thoughts about doing the nails of someone who almost gets arrested in front her store and all the other stores watching the scene. Not to mention the officer was a total jerk. Treated me like a low life criminal, and did not even attempt to apologize when he knew he was wrong...

Comment (9/2006): I have been busted on 800 N on my way to work at 4 AM. There are alternate routes that are much safer.
