Highway Patrols everywhere, this is definately a source of revunue for this county. What a meaningless use for "law enforcement" I was supposedly doing 104 mph in a 75 mph zone, hmm, funny how my cruise was set on 75 and the officer wouldn't let me see the radar gun reading
Comment (3/2003): You can definately fight that one since he wouldnt show you the radar gun. Thats a big no no from the cop
Comment (5/2003): the cops are not obligated to show you the speed on their radar - I know, I went to court and lost. Judge says they don't have to
Comment (7/2003): Thanks to the "street lawyer" for the insightful comment about the cop not lettting you see the radar gun. By his comment I guess he thinks the cop will keep the reading on the gun until the court date so the court can see the "proof" as well? C'mon! The issue will be decided on one person's word vs. another, not what the radar gun showed. There's no impetus placed on any cop anywhere to "show me the gun!" Think people!
Comment (1/2004): I am a police officer and RADAR instructor in Nevada, formerly employed with an agency in Utah. Police officers have no obligation to show the alleged violator the RADAR reading. I instruct my students that if the speed is "locked" on the display and it is safe to do so, there is no harm in allowing the violator to view it. In neither state is there a requirement to "lock" the speed reading in the display as one method of insuring you are receiving a speed reading on the vehicle you intend is to continue speed readings after the target vehicle has left the RADAR's field. This is viewed with great skepticism by many, but I assure you, we receive no personal gain from issuing citations; only complaints from citizens. You can't please everyone.
