Speed limit reduced @ town limits & troopers are waiting near town signs, also parked in woods perpendicular to road further on. Of 4 cars @ same speed, 4th car in line, single female out of state, was stopped. Others were not. Stay @ 55 mph or be ticketed/subject to discrimination.
Comment (6/2004): Speeding between AP Hill and Carmel Church on 301 will get you a ticket, guaranteed.
Comment (1/2005): Whereas I can't say that I've gotten a speeding ticket in VA, I can say that I always travel 301 from near Richmond towards Bowling Green, passing Fort A.P. Hill and onto Port Royal and Dahlgren. I've seen numerous trooper activity on that stretch of 301 between A.P. Hill and Port Royal, concealing themselves in those "turnarounds" between the four lanes of traffic. Good thing I have used - and will continued to use - my Valentine One radar detector. I always like to keep another vehicle out in front of me, by about a quarter to a third of a mile ahead. Many times the trooper will turn on his/her instant on radar unit and zap the car ahead of me, alerting my detector. One good thing is that, because of the antiquated law concerning radar detectors, a lot of troopers simply leave their radar units on whereever they go or setup at. This makes it easier to find them. Also, I know for a fact that a trooper cannot use the Spectre or VG-2 radar detector-detector at the same time he/she's using radar because of the interference. They have to have one on at a time. Have been traveling that same route to get to Maryland for over 25 years and no problems here - so far.
Comment (4/2005): Mid day seems to be the worst on that stretch of 301. Also on the connecting 207 towards Carmel Church
Comment (4/2005): Just got trapped there 10 days ago on 301. (also about 10 years ago- I'm a slow learner) County officer was folksy and polite but as far as I'm concerned overstated my speed. Traps must keep Caroline County in operation!
