Traveling west-south on Lee Highway toward 66 and away from Arlington. Police park motorcycles on side street and as drivers pass over crest of hill and down slope, police step out from behind light posts and "shoot" cars with Lidar. Catching drivers as cars naturally acclerate on downhill slopes are a favorite strategy of Arlington police.

Comment (2/2004): Lee Hwy runs east/west, not south. The speed limit is the same on a street whether you are going up or down a hill. And it is not like Arlington is in the hills of VA. It is not covered with steep, wide open hills. Especially Lee Hwy.

Comment (2/2004): Thats what yer brakes are for.

Comment (3/2004): I got caught there. I was going 46 in the 30mph zone and the cop jumped out into traffic from behind a pole and waved me over. $96. I've seen them there many times afterwards, but learned to slow down through there. No one goes 30 in there, though. Give me a break.

Comment (7/2005): Actually, there have been tons of accidents between Quantico and Sycamore. I know, because I live there and once a month some jerk goes through the fence on the corner.

Comment (4/2004): This guy is absolutly RIGHT. I've been hit there and seen many cars pulled over on the way home from work during rush hour. YES there are hills in N VA and this part of Lee Highway is a good example. Obviously the other comment about hills has never driven on Lee Highway before. The Arlington Court system is NOT driver friendly so everyone that day in court was guilty. Watch out the cops do jump right out from the poles and trees by side of raod and hit you with Lidar.

Comment (5/2004): FYI Ya'll There is another LIDAR trap on north bound N Glebe RD @17th ST. She nabbed me on my bike their last friday. I question her though, there were 3 other cars around me, and I was the one who stopped??? Beware coming over the hill by the church It is on your left) she can see you from there!

Comment (5/2004): This is my first, and last, day on this site. You'd think the "cops" would not even bother with posting anything. As many empiracal studies have shown, cops tend to be power-hungry individuals who are unhappy with their of control over their own lives. Why not just do your job, cops, and stay out of our business?

Comment (6/2004): i concur. the speed is set at 30 mph inappropriately for the explicit purpose of raising the county's revenue. there has never once been an accident on that part of 29.

Comment (8/2004): just get a Blinder laser jammer installed on your car. The cops probably won't figure out you jammed the lidar gun because they mess up on there own every once in a while. Even if you do get caught with a laser jammer (which is highly unlikely if you use it right) it falls under the same VA code section as having a radar detector. $40 fine + processing/court fee, no points on license, also no seizure. Better than paying a more expense ticket and getting the points to go with it. BTW, since laser light is regulated by the FDA there is no federal law that says you can't own and operate a class 1 laser that is brighter than the cop's class 1 laser.

Comment (8/2005): "Naturally accelerate?" Brakes not work going down the hill?

This is not a speed trap, but a trap none the less. On Glebe Road, the police hide in a small shopping center and ticket drivers who are coming off Highway 50. This is a right on red violtion. I get hit for 154.00 dollars! The signs are not placed so you can easily see the warning not to turn right on red. The sign should be atache to the red light itself. That is where you are looking. This is blantant trap for revenue, under the pretense of public saefty.
