This officer is always there when I drop Off my sister in the mornings. He's on the side of the road on a motorcycle about 3 or 4 blocks before Russell Rd. Slow traffic down to 25 and just cruise to that speed till you hit the Interesction. Plus if you do get pulled, he won't give you a break.

When driving past TC Williams High School towards Old Town Alexandria, there will be a church on the right. Immediatley upon seeing the church I advise you slow down to EXACTLY 35mph. Officers stand on the corner sidewalk at the top of a hill (so if you have overshot what you need for the hill then you're getting a ticket) with some kind of detection pointed at passing cars. THey then stand out in front of the offender of the unreasonably slow posted limit and point you to a side street. GW Parkway is U.S. Park Police area of patrol. Posted speed limit is 40mph however safe/common travel speed is around 60 mph. The enforcement officer will typically either stay in a parked patrol car on the overpass coming from Nation Airport to south bound G.W. Parkway -or- park directly in front of Maintenance Yard pointing at south bound traffic. Primarily have seen laser in use during the past year. The officer will sit in the vehicle and the laser reading is typically taken immediately after you reach crest of small rise on South bound travel lanes. Watch the cabs going to National Airport. They have radio and cell phones and typically let each other know when the trap is set so if you see them poking along at 35, be careful!

About halfway between Kenmore and Sanger Aves there is a hill with parking cuts along the north/eastbound side. Since Van Dorn St parallels I-395 on this stretch there is no cross traffic and cars turning out of the apartment complexes on the opposite side are clearly visible from a distance. The usual traffic speed is between 40 and 50 mph; the speed limit is 35. Motorcycle cops, sometimes four or five at a time like to hide out in the parking cuts behind parked cars and pick off people traveling in either direction. They seem to primarily target the most egregious offenders - those going over 50 mph. The only time I have seen regular enforcement going on is between midday and early afternoon.
