after coming out of the big walker mountain tunnel cops sit around the curve. probley one of the biggest speed traps in va. i have seen cops lined up behind each other so when one pulls out the other one can step right in to take his place

Comment (11/2002): I can Vouch for the person who wrote this article. That is the Biggest Speed Trap in Bland County. I have seen as many as 6 Cops (Usually 3 Troopers and 3 Locals) Lined up just waiting to give people tickets. Thank God for VG-2 Cloaking/Stealth Radar Detectors. It Should be 65 MPH After you get OUT Of the Tunnel, Not 1/2 mile after you get out, Same goes for Entering the Tunnel

Comment (3/2003): I totally agree with Bland being a big speed trap, cops sitting at the side of the road in the dark with no visible lights, somewhat dangerous if you ask me, at the bottom of a hill and there is absolutely no tolerance for a few miles over the speed limit

Comment (7/2003): I agree, Got me a ticket there on my way to Myrtle beach

Comment (9/2003): extremely true, I drive from Bluefield Wv, to Wytheville VA daily, the state police are starting to use more and more unmarked impalas and crown victoria's in these areas, one smartellic trooper is driving a silver crown vic and loves to sit in the southbound lane on 77 on the other side of the tunnel on foggy mornings.

Comment (9/2003): Got a ticket in Bland after taking my child to the NC State-Ohio Stae FB game on 9-13. Came thru Bland at about 1 in the morning. There were maybe 5 cars on the interstate. Lo and Behold blue lights or whatever color come on in the emergency lane. Women cop, pulled me. Claimed I was going 77 in a 65. She could have put down 100 in a 65 and there is nothing I could do about it I guess. Really ticks me off that she found the easy way out and went after a mini van with a sleeping 8 year old in the back as opposed to all the other drinking drivers and such that must go on ,on a Saturday night in Virgina. Be very careful when going thru this place. I'm usually all for the cops and the tough job they have, but this was 100% BS

Comment (4/2004): Hi everyone, I was coming through Bland on my way back from Snowshoe in my mom's mini van. I had over $3000 worth of ski equipment on top, 6 people inside (one being my fiance, and brother) and a trooper clamied i was going 87 in a 65. (in a freaking van uphill) To my suprise! I do not speed, never had a ticket or anything. I did see the pig though he was going northbound on the other side of the road around a curve and on a bridge. I guess he clocked a truck that was flying by us all. Anyways I get about 4 or 5 miles down the road and I see a trooper coming up. He gets past me, slows down, looks at me, and then pulls in behind to pull me over. Total BS. I know its the only way VA can make any money but come on. Get a freaking life. I couldn't argue or anything so i had to pay my way out of it in court. What happened was, he saw I was young (22), out of state, and been skiing. I have no respect for police of any kind anymore its people like this that make good cops look bad.

Comment (5/2004): I live about 10 miles away from that tunnel and I agree have to agree -- there are ALWAYS cops there...rarely do I drive through there when someone isn't getting a ticket.

This is a bad one, a true money making scheme! This was in Virginia, a state that for some reason makes motorsists suffer w/o their radar detectors. On rural I-77, you'll encounter the Big Walker tunnels. The speed reduces to 55 for the tunnells. Directly on the outside of these tubes, a cop in a maroon colored Crown Vic was waiting. The tunnels quickly transition into a hill, so the cops have a very tricky hiding place.
