Hiding on 156 on ramp watching vehicles comming down the mountain
Comment (2/2003): Exit 156 is incredibly bad. I got pulled over twice at exit 156 in one day, one northbound I-81 the other southbound I-81. Whatever you do don't speed here. The cops literally came out of nowhere, especially considering that I am like a hawk when it comes to watching for the police and checking my mirrors. If you drive a sports car or an import car they WILL profile you. I had a truck pulling a trailer at 95+ in a 65, and the cop pulled me for doing 80. Just be really careful. Oh yea, they like to pick on stuff other than speed like faulty parts, exhaust etc...
Comment (2/2003): My friend and I got pulled over twice in one day at mm 156. Once in the northbound lane and the other in the soutbound. The cops will give you just about any ticket they can come up with, and one of them was really mean about it too.
Comment (5/2003): 156 is a popular spot because there are so many people who just fly through the dip (not a mountain). I have head the troopers talk about getting the same car going north, then getting it again going south the same day at the same spot and both times at 15+ mph over the limit. I am careful there myself.
Comment (5/2003): I drive a 18 wheeler I-81 is my routine route. They mainly target big rigs and most of the trooper's who use the 156 exit get on ramp are dot cops. So you truck drivers out there watch you speed by there. The way they work the trap they set on the ramp which there is a small tree covered embankment that hides them and were you get hit by rader from behind. After they do that on the northbound side. The trooper goes up to the crossover at the 160mm and shoots the southbound side. They just one a circle making money from us.
Comment (5/2003): Hmmmmmmmmm, if they target truckers so heavily, how come I see mostly 4 wheelers stopped? I see a truck occasionally, but most often, it's a car.
Comment (6/2003): Pick? its called the law not picking. fix it and stop complaining
Comment (7/2003): Around mm153 southbound at the last underpass before the truck stop. The car will be sitting on the right side behind the bridge column with only the radar mounted on the side of the car peeking out. It's a slight rise before the underpass and you can see the top of the bridge before you get there so you know when to slow. If you are in the right lane you come up the hill and you have no chance. Left lane is only marginally better. Best is to just slow down there.
Comment (2/2004): I also received a ticket at mm 156. I have to go to court about it.
Comment (5/2004): Drove through this area twice this month--I did not see any such thing. Maybe he's moved on...
Comment (6/2004): before exit truck weigh station and 150A-B going northbound on I81, as you pass the weight station on the right you go down a hill and start to go up the next and the police sit at the top on the left in the median,
Comment (7/2004): I got stopped for doing 74mph southbound at mm 160. I couldn't believe he picked me out. Most of the traffic was going 70+.
