Ok, its not that the speeds are unrealistic, but people still get pulled over often on this route. Mostly it is during the day time, especially on Sundays. I got pulled over on this route along with 3 of my friends. Even if you are going just 5 MPH over the 55 MPH speed limit, they will pull you over. And this pretty much goes for all of 460 between Farmville and Lynchburg. one time i counted 7 state troupers while driving this route. They have grey patrol cars, and always use moving radar.

Comment (3/2003): I have also found out the the deputies in Appomattox County love to work radar as well. There are 2 deputy cars that I always see out when I travel through Appomattox County. I have found that the by-pass is the place where they love to work that radar magic at.

Comment (5/2003): I've traveled that area many times...and true, on occasion, I have seen a few patrol cars, some located backed-up a bank, in a median. I've also noticed most of the traffic runs well-above the posted speed limit of 55mph. Out of curiosity, I've clocked a few, and found 70-75mph to be often the average.

Comment (6/2003): NOT TRUE PEOPLE, pulled over for going 5 over...NOT going to happen especially with the state. must have been going faster than that. WAKE UP!

Comment (7/2003): US 460 in whole is a speed trap. State cops usually go for 10+ over to ticket.

Comment (8/2003): Hilly terrain dictates not pushing the speed limit - it's very easy for a Trooper to catch you topping the hill too fast. I received one ticket there. He clocked me at 71 in a 55 (I was), but was "impressed" with my "attitude" and wrote it up for 61, thus saving me money on an obvious infraction.

Comment (9/2003): On 14 Sept 03 pulled over for 71 in a 55 about 9 mi east of appamattox traveling east. I was going with the traffic. Never saw him as I was being tailgated by a pickup decorated with numerous rebel flags (I am a Union re-enactor on the way home after Sunday event and was still in a Yankee uniform).Pulled my vehicle over out of a pack - as the truck passed after I was pulled over they haonked and made a hand gesture but the officer appeared not to notice and ticket was written for full amount.

Comment (9/2003): Although US 460 is four-lane, and parts are built like a modern interstate, most of the road is non-restricted access with hundreds of back roads and home driveways entering directly onto the highway. It can be a dangerous road. That's why the posted speed limit is 55 and STRICTLY enforced. If you need to get across Virginia quickly, use I-64, not US 460!

Comment (10/2003): This is true coming into Appomattox. Be sure to follow the speed limits because there have been a lot of accidents at the shopping center. A lot of accidents have occurred in Concord at the traffic light. Radar is usually set up outside of Appomattox heading east, near highway 633, before reaching Pamplin Exxon, especially there in the mornings and in the afternoons.

Comment (3/2004): I live in Appomattox, and I can say that the whole town, not just RT 460 is VERY strict about the speed limits. From a "townees" perspective, it's pretty obvious that the "low tax town" uses its speed limits as a kind of "random toll" on people from out of the area who don't know the strict policies. Also, they are prejudice against young people. I say this as a 29 year old man who got my license in the town. I've been pulled over many times in the town. When I was younger, 16-21 I always got a ticket. Now, if I'm respectful (which I was at 16-21) if you ask if the charge can be reduced to "improper equipment" and if you can pay the full fee of the ticke you WOULD'VE gotten, then they will usually do that... all they care about is the $ anyway.

Comment (12/2004): This is true, trust me, I was pulled over going 71 in a 55 at 3 am on the day before my birthday and I still got a ticket, my first one I should add. First and only one for that matter. Bedford County is one big speed trap!
