9 times out of 10, it's an Addison County sheriff sitting behind the farm supply building, parked by the gas station or hiding behind a bush at the south side of the intersection. The road is wide open and straight and goes from 50 to 40 to 35 for what seems like miles. Usually get out-of-staters here, either speeding or not stopping at the stop sign for Route 17 as it crosses 22A. This area seems pretty lucrative for these folks.
Comment (1/2004): being a police officer i know that area all to wellpeople die there.we are the ones who have to inform loves ones when deadly accidents happen. how would you like that part of the job!
Comment (2/2004): As a former Vermont resident, I can attest to the totalitarian nature of VT law enforcement. Consider that most municipalities in Vermont derive about 1/3 of all annual revenue from traffic stops. Do not travel alone; the police in Vermont will invent infractions and perjure themselves in court should you choose to fight it.
Comment (4/2004): A couple days after Christmas, myself and two of my friends headed over to VT to visit some friends. At this intersection, my friend driving stopped at the stopsign for Route 17 as it intersects Route 22A and let an Addison County Sheriff make is his turn. The sheriff ducked behind a building and popped out behind us as we headed north and pulled us over. His reason? He stated that we didn't stop for the stopsight... We were stunned. He said he was going to cut as a break and not write him for it. uh-huh. Sure.
Comment (5/2005): What is a requisite for being a copin Vermont? I was stopped for 75mph in a 50mph zone. I had the cruise set at 55mph, I saw the cop about 3/4 mile away. Do they think we are that stupid? He saw an out-of-state plate and flipped the blues on. The ticket is about $175 and to top it off, there was NO WAY I was doing 75! It's a new car! Vermont amazes me.
Comment (5/2005): I was stopped here about a month ago. They definately go after folks with out of state plates, which would seem to mean that they are more about revenue than safety.
