Traping travelers eastbound on UA 4, 1~2 miles past junction of Vt 100. Speed drops from 50 to 40. Gotcha! For that matter US 4 in Vermont is a goat path that changes speed every 100 feet. If you are a cop, speed trap heaven.

Comment (6/2006): Saw 3 people receive tickets in one day, so I was cautious as I travelled this area. Was still stopped and told I was doing 56 in the 40 zone which I didn't know I was in. They're using this area to raise taxes. Sheriff was curt and nasty. Says he does visual check??. I feel "trapped" and defrauded. Route 4 has more speed limit changes than any other road I have been on. This was my first ticket in 40 years of driving. I spoke to others who acknoweldge the trap. I was so irate I shortened my vacation and spent my monet in NH. Don't use this stretch of road and don't spend you money in that area. Let the locals pay their own taxes and not have us foot the bill. I refuse to do business in the area and hopefully the merchants will complain to the sheriff's office and they'll be more honest in their approach.

Comment (7/2006): The business owners are the ones who push for the Sheriff's Department to enforce the speed limit. Also the town only receives 5% of the ticket if it is written for a local ordinance, otherwise it all goes to the state.

Comment (10/2006): I agree, I used to live in Bridgewater. Its even worse than described here. There is a stretch just beyond the 40 mph that drops to 25 mph. This trap is for primaily for out of staters who are weekend visitors to Killington Ski Area. RT 4 is a continual speed trap from rt.100 to the NH state line. If you think Bridgewater is bad, You will just hate Woodstock VT. which is just down the road a piece.

Comment (05/2008): i too was also busted for speeding in same spot.officer told me i was doing 56mph in a 40mph zone. thought i was in a 50 looked to see if i was over .was doing 48 rounded the corner .it\'s 40 mph busted .big fine points on my lic.now a bad day.
