There's a big hill where everybody goes at least 40-45 MPH downhill (including cops) on a wide 4-lane road. The posted limit is 35. Cops tend to hide in the trees at the bottom of the hill and nail people going 5-7 over. I got one for going 41.

Since I'm here (having posted a trap that got me yesterday) I though I'd mention this too. Starbucks, Bellevue (106th Av/ NE 8th) - 10/11 pm, often 2,3,4 patrol cars are parked as officers change shifts and stop for coffee. One evening I noticed two unmarked cars with ram-bars on the front parked in the same (no-parking!) spot. Closer inspection revealed that they were in fact un marked police vehicles (laptops mounted in passenger seat, radios etc.) Sure enough, inside Starbucks there were traffic cops. I didn' t take note of the make etc. of the cars (only just found this site), and it was dark. But they looked identical to patrol cars, just painted dark blue instead. They had extra external antennae, and also ram bars on the front. Anyway, just a FYI that there are unmarked cars operating in the Bellevue area.

For those who travel down Lakemont Blvd on a regular basis kmay not know that the speed limit is 30mph. However, because the street is relatively wide, most drivers are unaware. In between the Forest Drive and NE 164th streets, there is a fire station where the police hide near - it could be in the bushes across or in one of the nearby streets.....look out for them.

The hilly 24th St between the 134th Ave NE and 140th Ave NE makes observing the 30MPH limit practically impossible without wearing out your brake pads every year. The traffic police would emerge from any way from one of the side lanes or malls. It is very difficult to plead for leniency at the Bellevue traffic court.

Seconds after missing the 405 interchange, if you stay left on I-90 West, You'll find some state patrol cars (often suburbans, tahoes, cruisers, etc) waiting to catch you. When you see people exiting to 405, do yourself a favor and slow down. You can often spot these cops much before you come near them, and if you're really in a hurry I suggest staying in the far right lane of I-90 and getting behind a truck/some traffic so your speed can't be properly observed. More than 50% of the time I pass this (I commute through here every day) I see either a cruiser in the median, or some flashing lights ahead (someone had already been pulled over and in the process of being ticketed). There's usually about 5 or 6 motorcycle cops hanging out on the strip between 405 and Eastgate, and it's ALWAYS in the middle of the day, around 11a-4p. Used to merchandise the area, saw them every single day.

Somerset Blvd is a VERY steep 2-lane road that curves around the hill. The posted limit is 25 mph, but it's impossible to do less than 40-45 without wearing out your brakes. 25 might make sense on a rainy night, but my mom was busted for doing 33 on a clear, dry morning. There is an automatic radar readout signs halfway down the hill, across from Somerset Rec Club. Cops like to park in the bike lanes (!) or hide around the corner on 44th Ave, near said sign.

Bellevue Police Dept motorcycle officer typically hides behind the hedges of the Home Depot parking lot that parallel this stretch of NE 120th. The typical scenario is where the motorist is coming off of 116th turning onto and going uphill on NE 1st, then decends downhill (at the point that NE 1st changes to NE 120th)picking up speed and of course exceeding the 25 mph posted limit (most people are doing 35 at this point).

As you turn north off of Main from the Botanical Gardens, there is a speed sign in the distance (1000 feet.) A giant "Your Speed" will flash at speeds above 30 MPH. The officers hide in the bushes near NE 3rd PL. Worse yet they hide their vehicles one block to the west of 124 NE in a neighborhood cul-du-sac. The speed sign is prone to erroneous readings by occasionally capturing the speed of southbound vehicles. But there you are traveling northbound. The officers observe the sign, step out from the bushes and flag you down. The judge will make it clear to everyone who comes to traffic court, you must disprove the officers written testimony in order to overturn the ticket. We never saw a radar gun, but the officer provided a number for a radar "unit" in his written statement. The speed is 25 MPH on all roads in Washington state, unless otherwise posted. And man can they write a lot of tickets. The slight downward slope in the road makes for some pretty good revenue.

Trap is midway on 164th Ave NE between NE 24th St. and NE 30th St. Motorcycle police hide out of sight and step forward with radar gun on the approach of traffic. Speed limit changes to 25 MPH on this stretch of road. The speed limit sign is covered by tree limbs and a zoning sign further blocks visibility of the sign and no effort has been made by the city to change the situation and is exploited by the Bellevue police. I can provide photographs of the speed sign if anyone is interested.

This happens on Main St. between 140th & 148th. A Bellevue police car or motorcycle will hide behind the bushes just inside the entrance to the townhomes across the street from Sammamish High School. Posted speed limit is 25mph whereas it's 35mph everywhere else. On school days it is lowered to 20mph and fines are doubled. They are there at various times of the day.

Mortorcycle police at entrance to Hidden Valley Ball Park are there on a fairly regular basis for years and use this location because the road goes downhill in both directions with the ball park entrance being the lowest point, thus traffic has a tendency to speed up approaching the park. Many times there are two motorcycles, one pointing the laser gun north and the other south.

Police obscure themselves behind bushes on the right side (westbound perspective) and point radar guns at vehicles who travel up a hill. 8th St is a main drag and the speed limit is ridiculously slow (25 MPH) for the area, and the posted limit changes at 164th and again at 156th. The location is intended to be a trap for youth drivers heading home from high school. Especially high enforcement during ticket season (beginnings and ends of months) in spring and fall.
