This speed trap is on HWY 169 and is .10 of a mile from a change in speed zones from 50 to 35mph. The police cars sit at CJ's Bakery and use two radar guns so they can catch motorists from each direction.

Comment (10/2002): Black Diamond is definately a speed trap town. I've known for years and still managed to get one for accelerating to the new speed zone to early. And yes the officer was at Cj's Bakery.

Comment (1/2003): Watch out when entering Black Diamond from the south near Plass road. They parkthere with lights off waiting for you to crest the hill. They like the earlymorning commuters.

Comment (6/2003): Mine is identical to a previous comment I was accelerating to the new speed limit and recieved a ticket from the officer who was sitting closer to the sign than CJ's in a drivway. He said thats where he was sitting but I checked as I went by and know he wasn't there. He was sitting in a driveway even closer to the sign.

Comment (10/2003): I used to drive thru Black Diamond on a regular basis. I recieved a ticket for traveling 37 in a 25 at 3 A. M. then I began using S. E. 288th to Lake Sawyer and eventually Kent Black Diamond Rd around the town. City limits have expanded to include these areas, It's a local joke but then even the locals (I'm one)seldom speed

Black Diamond officers park right past the Lake Sawyer store on the left side of the road. If you are coming from Kent-Kangley road going south, you cant see them till you are in their sights. They will not give you a break and they really get the kids coming and going from Kentlake high school on a regular basis.

Black Diamond PD park just east of the intersection of Lake Sawyer Rd SE and Roberts Ln. (also known as Auburn-Black Diamond Rd. outside of Black Diamond). They enforce the VERY LOW speed limit of 25 MPH west bound on Robert Ln., enforce the 50 mph zone on Auburn-Black-Diamond Rd. West of this intersection and those slowing down coming int othe 25 mph zone in Black Diamond, and watch for roll-through stops at the stop sign on Lake Sawyer Rd Se at this intersection; all from this one location. Sometimes they are almost completely hiden in an adjacent driveway. DO NOT SPEED ANYWHERE IN BLACK DIAMOND or roll-through ANY stop signs within Black Diamond. Interestingly, the court building in Black Diamond IS the police building, and the window you stand at to pay a trafic fine is only about six feet from a window to the BD Police Office. I don't think there's much chance of leniency from the court here!
