The police will generally have several cars lined up on the on-ramp just before the Kitsap mall exit and a car will generally be hiding behind a large highway sign that is attached to the bridge. It is possible to see the car from a distance away but you must be looking for it! Generally the hood of the car can be spotted before you get too close. Good luck and make sure you drive friendly in Kitsap Co.
Comment (5/2003): As well as using radar from the overpass, on sunny days, they have a plane up flying above from the previous 2 overpasses, be cautious on sunny days, it is much less likely to be spotted in time plus a radar detector is no defense against airial surveliance.
Comment (5/2003): Who are we kidding? The entire kitsap peninsula is a speed trap! Be careful, big brother is always watching. If we repeal I-695, will you PLEASE quit harassing us??
Comment (7/2003): The State of Washington can say that I695 (role-back of registration fees)has nothing to do with the extreme rise in enforcement by the WSP since it went into effect. They think we are idots and have not noticed this. This is one way the State and Local governments can make you pay for making your voice be heard through this initiative. Have you noticed the implementation of photo-enforced stop lights did not take off until after the passage of I695? This has turned out to be a cash-cow for local governments to replace pre-I695 revenue. This is just my humble opinion.
Comment (11/2003): Highway 3 is "Mig Alley" an analogy referring to the Korean War where North Korean Mig jet fighters lurked in a part of Korea and menaced the good guy flyboys of teh US Air Force. In this instance the Migs are the Crown Victorias of the Washington State Patrol. Going south on 3 about 1/4 to 1/2 mile south before Trigger sometimes a cop sits right at the mild curvature of the road with his radar gun. This is a quick kill region as all this fellow does is call his buddies waiting on the Trigger Road overpass and on-ramp. Another intersting spot is the center median going south near Chico Way. I have seen Smokey standing there with a radar gun and a radio. Again his buddies are waiting down the road waiting to pounce. The whole 3 corridor is 60 MPH in most areas and going over 65 MPH is usually a citation. Kitsap County is teh answer to Washington's budget crisis.
Comment (1/2004): They have added a new tactic in this area. Now they are putting one officer on an overpass with a handheld laser gun. He then radios down to the mass of cars waiting to chase you down. This has been happening between Silverdale and Gorst a few times a week. Speed safely!
Comment (4/2004): They do that on the over pass going to Tacoma, leaving Port Orchard too...
Comment (6/2004): Totally agree... however, this is true for any on ramp Hwy 3 from the Subase Bangor Main Gate Road all the way to Tacoma. Especially between 1-5pm during the weekdays.
Comment (10/2004): funny how the speed traps increase right about the 1st and the 15th of every month, when the military guys get paid!
Comment (2/2005): And dont worry about lic plate lights working, men in green have bad eye sight. and should write themselves a white lie ticket .anything to get in your space. drive around the east side about 1030 welcome to the powerzone.you think you men need more flashing lights ,get a grip.Imean loosen it.

As one takes Tracyton Beach Road NW along the Dyes Inlet towards Bremerton several speed traps exist. Once you pass Sheridan Road Tracyton Beach Road turns in Lebo Blvd. The speed limit turns 25 MPH in a residential neighborhood and this is enforced by the Bremerton Police Department. The street is wide. As one proceeds towards to Wheaton Way, there are several parking lots on the south side of Lebo where Bremerton Police Department lurks usually with their radar guns. There are also numerous side streets and alley ways that empty into Lebo Blvd. Speed limit is strictly enforced. The last stretch of Lebo Blvd. near the YMCA turns into 20 MPH during daytime hours. During one 40 minute period about 5 months ago while sitting at a cafe at the corner of Lebo Blvd and Wheaton Way, I noted that the Bremerton Police Department scored "6 kills" by issuing traffic citations to unsuspecting drivers.

13th St from High Ave. to Chester in front of the High School and behind the college there is a 2 to 3 block stretch with posted speed limit of 20MPH in the school zone. this extends for an additional 6 blocks around the college. Police generally have 2 motorcycle and 1 or more squad cars sitting on the side streets behind fences and trees to the south of 13th St barely in view to the vehicle's driver or passenger. Any vehicle operating at more than 3MPH over will be pulled. This is especially true during early morning Fall and Spring seasons.

Police Cars or motorcycles will sit on the north bound side of Cherry Avenue or Spruce Street and 'shoot' up hill. Difficult to achieve posted speed as hill has a 12-13% slope.

Comment (5/2003): As well as using radar from the overpass, on sunny days, they have a plane up flying above from the previous 2 overpasses, be cautious on sunny days, it is much less likely to be spotted in time plus a radar detector is no defense against airial surveliance.

Ther are two places the the police like to hide at,the first is, when turning onto Marine Drive from Kitsap Way, accross the street from the church daycare parking lot hiding back on a side street. This is the beginning of a SCHOOL ZONE and a 177.00 ticket. The second is on Rocky Point Rd. there is a fire station about 500 ft from where you leave Marine Drive and onto Rocky Point. The police are either in the parking lot of the station or on the side street accross from the station, again, this is also the beginning of a school zone, and another possible 177.00 ticket. (2 tickets 1/2 mile, not good). drive friendly.

Comment (4/2004): They do that on the over pass
