Local patrol cars will sit northbound at the abandon exit ramp to the Bellaire bridge, either at the top, next to the hillside weeds or on the approach ramp to the highway from the bridge, half way down the ramp in the shadows. Heading south, they will sit at the base of the 4th street exit ramp, back in a dug-out space within the tall weeds. You can't see them untill you are right in front of them. The highway speed limit is 55, and both of these locations are on a slight downhill grade where you will pick up a little extra speed. Out-of-state drivers get nailed the most, while locals get a break. Now i'm a local, but one for all and all for being treated fair!
Comment (12/2002): I can tell you from experience that this is 100% true. I am from NJ, and I was traveling 13 miles over the limit. Next thing I know, blue lights are letting me know its time to pay my driving tax. (Speeding Ticket). It was after 8pm and it was very light traffic. He could have given me a break since cars where passing me before I was pulled over. Going to go to court this wen, maybe I`ll get lucky and he won`t show, or I can plead down to something lesser. Will let you know what Happens!
Comment (1/2003): Grew up in the area my whole life. Moved out of state after college due to lack of jobs in WV. 8am, only car on the road, pulled over for 66 in 55. Cop knew same people I did and that I was from the area. No matter. Out of state plates. Fine! Expensive too. I got one on the MD interstate for 84 in 65 and it was only $70. Live near a big city now and you don't even look at your speed. You go with the flow or get run over by other cars. You really have to be moving to get pulled over for speeding here. WV doesn't have the other crimes to make money so they have to nail speeders.
Comment (7/2004): I got pulled over here for "changing lanes without signalling." I told the cop that my uncle had died and that I was going to his funeral the next day. That may have gotten me out of a ticket. My older brother said that he was pulled over for going "too slowly."
