Comment (12/2002): Speed limit is 45 passing over 340 going west on 9 into Charles Town. Shortly thereafter you might see a "Reduce Speed Ahead" sign. Then as you make a right turn the "25 MPH" appears. The cop sits on the right just round the turn and nails you for 40-45 in a 25 as you round the turn.
Comment (1/2003): I got it here too. He gave it to me for 41 in a 25. I was lost and had never been to this town before. Cop was rude and abrasive.
Comment (1/2003): This location is RT 115, which is clearly posted and strictly enforced by city police. If you travel this route, it would be wise to travel the posted speed limit.
Comment (3/2003): I also know this area very well. If you watch for the signs, they are all easy to see. I gave the excuse that I was not from the area and the officer politely informed me that if I was lost I should have been watching for signs. He was right. He also gave me a ticket for 38 mph in 25, but was nice, telling me they are trying to lower the accident rate and the amount of people getting hurt. They are just doing their job
Comment (3/2003): Watch for the speed limit sign, as it is right in front of a blaring billboard and right after a long line of overgrown trees.
Comment (4/2003): We got one there too, 3 Am Sunday morning, in the fog heading out of town just feet from the 45 mph sign. Defiantly a money maker for them.
Comment (5/2003): We can't blame the officers for doing their job. I received a ticket at this location as well. 41 in a 25. Children stand on the corner waiting for the school bus as you turn right into the 25 zone from 45 zone. Wouldn't we all feel bad if we had an accident involving one of these children? There are reasons it turns into 25. I was wrong.
Comment (6/2003): Look people, the "war on speeding" is just as lame as the "war on drugs"...it accomplishes absolutely nothing, except maybe getting your money, or maybe scaring you a little bit making you perhaps slow down...however the majority of the people ive ever known drive just as fast no matter how many tickets they have received...it isnt about "protecting lives", its just yet another racket designed to get that cool cash out of your pocket and into the hands of our lovely government, don't be silly...
Comment (6/2003): I know this area like the back of my hand. Do everyone a favor and drive the posted speed limit. The police have other aspects of the job they would rather be doing. The speed limit signs look the same everywhere across the United States! It's better to cry for getting caught than to die for heeding not!
Comment (10/2003): I live on this road and it's hard to get on the main street as fast as the cars go. It's been 25 mph for years. I'm glad the police are making it safer. They should put people in jail when they hit someone to fast.
Comment (12/2003): There is a stretch of Route 9 which resembles a full-blown interstate highway (elsewhere it's a 2 land road). While the limit is 60, many people really pour it on and the State Police patrol this area aggressively.

A portion of Charles Town city limit includes a mile and a half section of US 340 centered at the Hwy 9 on/off ramp 2 miles South of Charles Town. Charles Town city police sit just over the crest of the hill (just past the Hwy 9 exit) to catch Southbound US 340 traffic, and they sit under the Hwy 9 overpass (again just over the crest of the hill) to catch Northbound US 340 traffic. Speed limit is 60, but this section seems to be divided with limited access and wide open, and (unsuspecting) traffic normally travels at around 75. This speed trap is manned often at all times of day, and is well known by the locals.
