Going westbound on I-90 coming out of South Dakota the speed limit is 75MPH. Crossing over the state line into Wyoming it eventually drops to 55 MPH. They will write you for 5 mph over. Troopers are all over the place and they work in packs just like wolves...preying on out of state drivers. The cop that got me stated "it's my policy to write everybody." Hmm, I wonder if he'd write his own mother. Or how about his partner or his supervisor? Of course they probably never go that fast in the first place.

Comment (6/2005): Where does the speed limit on I-90 drop to 55 mph? The state line is at about MP 208, Gillette's first exit is MP 130 or so. Don't know of anywhere on I-90 the limit drops to 55 unless it might be a construction zone. Troopers start writing tickets in Wyoming at 81 mph on the Interstates. So you're complaining that you got a ticket after driving 75 miles or so into the state where the speed limit is plainly posted @ 75mph? Remember when you HAD to drive 55 and WANTED to drive 75? Well, NOW YOU CAN!Slow down and enjoy the scenery....

Comment (7/2005): speed limit was 75 the day I came through there...anyone driving over should be ticketed...

Comment (2/2006): I drive that I-90 a lot and no where have I seen 55 mph.. It's 75, and I have never seen a "Pack of Wolves"

Comment (6/2006): I live in Gillette wyoming and not once in wyoming does the speed limit on the interstate go below 60 mph and that is only in the towns of Casper and Cheyenne that I am aware. anywhere on the interstate at least 5 miles from a town the speed limit is 75 unless you are going through construction.

Comment (3/2006): I have lived in Gillette all my life and have never seen the speed limit drop to 55 mph, except in constrution zones and even they are 45 not 55 mph. 75 is fast enough, anyone going over shold get fined. The police dont patrol in packs either. The interstate is too big to travel together and their arent enough officers to travel in packs together. They probably have like 3 officers patroling 150 miles of road. rarely ever have I even seen a cop on the highway, much less in packs, and remember I have spent 26 yrs of my life traveling these roads.

Comment (4/2006): I totally agree with everyone! I have also lived in Gillette my whole life and the speed limit on I-90 is clearly 75 all the way from the SD border and beyond. I-90 does have pretty good patrolling, especially on holidays, but really, no one really needs to be going faster than 77 mph, imho

Comment (2/2006): I was stopped for "impeding traffic" after the cop said I was going "below the speed limit" in McKinney! Even though I was going under the limit, the poor guy almost blew up his Harley trying to catch me. Next time I will just gun the pinto and lose him!

Comment (6/2006): You will still get pulled over, even when you aren't speeding, it happens more than 50% of the time, that is why this website exists. Cities are not interested in your safety, if they were, they would issue you a warning, they simply want your money and they need people to speed to generate revenue! I have many friends that are cops that can attest to this.

Comment (7/2006): If everyone was trained how to properly drive their SUV's, speed limits could be raised and you wouldn't have this problem. There are kids that are 15 years old racing 200mph+ Indy cars in Europe. They can do so because they are properly trained. Just a thought.

Comment (8/2006): "You will still get pulled over, even when you aren't speeding, it happens more than 50% of the time, that is why this website exists"So this would just be a "trap" and not an actual "speed trap". If you believe you were not breaking the law when you were pulled over, call the FBI or the Tx Rangers and report a civil rights violation. Tell them how you got the "50 percent" stat.

Comment (11/2006): It is a great thing there is no other crime in the entire city and every case is closed and there are no predators in any community. As I am extremely grateful to live in a crime free city with no open cases,as this allows the police department to send out patrols to remind speeders to slow down for their own safety, instead of using speed traps as a tool for revenue generation.

If you believe you were not breaking the law when you were pulled over, call the FBI or the Tx Rangers and report a civil rights violation. Tell them how you got the "50 percent" stat."Good luck with that, the system isn't set up that way.I personally believe the 50% is probably a little on the high side anyhow, probably more like they get this right 10% of the time. I also have police officer acquaintances who are simply told that they are provided with a reading on their equipment, but the equipment does not specifically tell them which car is responsible for the reading. When they are running speed detection on groups of dozens of cars at the same time, they have to make an educated guess on whom they think is responsible for that reading. When I ask how can they determine that, they respond it is just a guess, but nearly everyone is speeding, so they caught someone and issued their ticket. Revenue generated, city happy, job security, end..

Comment (06/2008): 75 is fast enough with the gas prices going up. coming from rapid city by sundance is straight 75 unless you are on the hwy then it drops to 55 and 65. I have been in gillette for 37 years and never have i seen the police in packs maybe once in a while they have 3 cars talking in the middle of the interstate and i think that is only to catch speeders going each direction,at the same time having a conversation. If you speed you probably deserve a ticket. I have gotten caught before its not fun, but it is better than the alternative like crashing into something or someone.
