Traffic laws in Lingle are strictly enforced by one overly aggresive cop in a unmarked (no roof lights) black car. 30 mph through town means 30 mph! If you have a dog in the back of your pickup that is barking he will stop you for disturbing the piece, even if your parked!
Comment (9/2002): Heading south out of town there is a 65 MPH sign 750 feet after a 30 MPH sign. I was ticketed for increasing my speed before coming to the 65 MPH sign. When I came back through Lingle, I stopped and measured where I was when he stopped me - less than 100'. The rude and "aggresive" officer claimed I was going 52 MPH - in a soccer mom van full of luggage no less. I had eight witnesses, willing to sign statements, following in other cars who say I wasn't going that fast.
Comment (3/2003): While heading south to Denver my family and I entered Lingle from the north and as approaching at 65mph notice the sign as we came over the hill and entered town which read: 30mph zone 1000 feet ahead, which is precisely where the police office waiting. We braked heavily (being cautious not to throw anyone through the windshield) and were able to slow down from 65 to 45 going down this very steep grade! The officer very rudely pulled us over and cited us with 46 in a 30. I politely mentioned to the officer that we made every attempt to slow down, given the grade and short distance, with very little notice, as the sign is positioned just as you come over the hill and first notice that the town exists.I suggested to him that had he given us another 100-200 feet we would have been at the 30mph limit. The officer arrogantly responded that when we passed the 30mph sign, he clocked us at 46, and therefor the $114 fine was justified, and subsequently, that "He himself had even executed this feat in a big truck once, and that it wasn't impossible!)

At edge of city limits speed drops quickly from 65 to 30. The patrolman sits in hidden places blasting people often doing better than 50 miles per hour. If you are traveling this area....beware.

30 mph limit not posted after U.S. Highway 26 turns east off of Main Street. Limit extends beyond logical edge of town distance, even though U.S.Highway 26 is expanded to 4 lanes. Cops won't budge, primary source of income to pay his wages.
