Police car sits in busy parking lot at west end of town just as the speed limit turns back to 65. I got a ticket for doing 14 m.p.h. over as I was leaving town on 20 and was less than 30ft. from the 65mph limit sign.I was stopped in both directions within 6 days.I was not 14mph over. I was being very careful on the way back! Tagged for $196.00

Comment (8/2002): Hey! I dont feel so bad now. I got ticketed 7/31/02 in Basin for 75 in a 65; Ticket was only $60.00.. Cop said it is normally $70 but since I had my seatbelt on he reduced it to $60 :)

Comment (10/2002): After living in Basin for several years the comment about the $196.00 speeding ticket can't be ture as there is no parking lot west end of Basin on hwy 20 and a fine for 14 over in a 30 mph zone is only $116.00. So in short I think someone better get some story's right before posting. WE ALSO HAVE CHILDREN IN TOWN TO PROCTECT AND 14 MPH OVER SPEED LIMT IS A TICKET!

Comment (7/2003): I also live in Basin, there is no parking lot in said location. I also have little kids and apprisiate speeding through our town. I do drive over the speed limit on open highway. Worland to Thermoplis is a much worse speed trap, our guys are't that bad.

Comment (10/2003): A friend of mine brought this site to my attention. One thing most have not mentioned is the WYDOT folks sets and maintain the signs in Wyoming on the highways, not the communities. Secondly, on average we " cite " as many if not more Wyoming residents than "out of state" vehicles. Third, how would you feel when someone drove 10 mph to 40 mph over the speed limit past you in your community, while you are trying to make turns, park or cross the street? We do get an incresed number of resident complaints about the speed which people drive during the summer months, I mean after all that is but a small part of why we are hired. We have families, we are certified by the State of Wyoming as peace officers. The final concern, is that quite a bit of the information contained in the most all of the complaints is totally false. I live in this state and most of the complaints credit us with the citation when the individual received the citation from a deputy sheriff or the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Atleast, get the facts correct. Yes, Wyoming bond schedule is high, but it is high for us all. Speeding in a 30 mph zone is $ 80.00 plus $ 4.00 for every mile per hour over the post speed limit, this is set by the Wyoming Supreme Court Services. Two things you can do to avoid a citation, One, observe the signs and slow down. Two, remember you are a guest here in Wyoming, we want to make you stay enjoyable, helps us by not leaving your brains at home when you venture out on our open roads, we don't.
