Speed Trap Exchange
Imagine that you are driving along the highway enjoying the scenery in the small, quaint town where you decided to take long needed vacation. As you drive along, you approach a hill and notice a sign posting the speed limit as 50 miles per hour. Being the conscientious driver that you are, of course you take heed and adjust your speed accordingly.
As you make your way over the top of hill and down the other side, you realize that the speed limit has suddenly been reduced to 35 miles per hour about midway down the hill. There is no way that you can safely reduce your speed to that level, short of slamming on the brakes of your car. So you slowly begin braking to slow your car, but are still approximately 10 miles per hour above the speed limit as you enter this new speed zone.
Now, there are blue lights flashing in your rear view mirror. You are the victim of a speed trap. Had you been familiar with this particular town, you would have known about this erratic speed zone and possibly avoided that ticket.
A speed trap can defined as an area where the speed limit has been set arbitrarily, with no regards to the driving conditions of the road. There are no dangerous curves or unseen circumstances that would warrant the sudden decrease in the speed limit. The sudden speed adjustment is not related to any safety precautions for driving. It just exists – seemingly for the sole purpose of making your life miserable and your insurance premiums skyrocket.
In these areas, police are known for writing an extraordinary number of tickets, mainly for speeding. Though small towns throughout America are notorious for speed traps, they can exist in larger areas also. In areas known for being speed traps, sometimes it is difficult to discern the speed limit, and at other times, the speed limit is unusually low.
Since you cannot possibly know about speed traps that exist in areas that you are unfamiliar with, that is the reason this site exists. Visiting or driving through unfamiliar territory? Now, you no longer have to fear those unwarranted tickets. You can end that anxiety by knowing just where the speed traps are.
