Comment (11/2005): If you stay on I22 and avoid Carbon Hill you wont have to worry any more about getting caught. As of november 22 2005 this town is headed into history as another ghost town.
Comment (3/2006): According to Alabama state Law (listed on this site)(e) Not more than six alterations as hereinabove authorized shall be made per mile along a street or highway, except in the case of reduced limits at intersections, and the difference between adjacent limits shall not be more than 10 miles per hour.I.e dropping from 55-35 is against the law. Take it up with your state representative.
Comment (4/2006): I am a truck driver that used to travel thru Carbon Hill, AL twice a night. Once going over and once coming back home. I have had 2 tickets in the past 17 years at my present job. (over 1.5 million miles) One of those tickets I recieved in Carbon Hill, AL. It was for a left lane violation. I was guilty so im not complaining about getting the ticket, but..........Its all about the money. Just send them the money! Trucks were not allowed in the left lane. I can go along with that law for the most part, such as during the day in rush hour traffic. The ticket i recieved was around 2a.m., so there was very little traffic. I knew about the lane restriction but I was sick and trying to get home so I passed another truck before the road went back to 2 lane. I didn't get ticketed for speeding, only for lane violation. I explained to the officer that I was sick but he did't care. He just kept writing the ticket and handed me a price list for the different violations. If you say its not about the money let me give a few examples of prices for violations. (These fines were in about 2002) Left Lane Violation= $189.50, Running Stop Light & Stop Sign= $142.50, Speeding=$152.50, Speeding-25 mph over Speed Limit=162.50, Passing Stopped School Bus While Loading Or Unloading=$152.50. The only ticket higher than the Lane Violation was Driving On The Wrong Side Of Road. It was $222.50. So if it is not about the money why is the fine cheaper to pass a loading/unloading school bus or running a red light? Because it is easier to take a truckers money. He (or she) more than likely wouldn't be able to be back for court and just pay the ticket. Well enough with the griping now as the new 4-lane is open and bypasses town. Mabey the town will dry up and blow away now. Just hate it for the few good people that live there.
