Beaufort is a small town located near an airport. Airplane enforcement is minimal but it does exist, it has too. How else can the officer with spiked hair find you when you are doing wrong. He will wait and watch and when you are least likely to think you are in trouble, he strikes. He keeps the pen and paper industry in business.

Comment (8/2002): true , true , true ..i don't even live in beaufort but visit there regularly and i have been fined ,stopped and warned more times in this town than my own home town where i also do a lot of driving. My wife has been to Beaufort twice and got fined twice yet she has ridden the triad flat for 2 1/2 yrs without incident . These cops obviously have nothing better to do. go fight real crime!

Comment (8/2002): Speeding is a real crime. Many people are killed from accidents involving speeding every year. For every 5mph increase in the speed limit the fatality rate increases 9 percent. The officers should be commended for their enforcement of the traffic laws.

Comment (10/2002): Actually, maiming and killing is a real crime. Speeding is not. Speeding is just going faster than an arbitary limit dictated by a control hungry government. If a 5% speed increase results in a 9% increase in deaths, then a 5% decrease results in a 9% decrease in deaths. If we all stood still, noone would get killed driving! Well, there's your solution to the carnage then.

Comment (7/2003): 40,000 people die in the US each year from traffic crashes. Thank God we have traffic control officers or this toll would be much higher.

Comment (9/2003): I'm sure doing 40 in a 35 thru Beaufort must be the cause of the high fatality rate that is happening there. There is just nothing else for those cops to do though.

Comment (10/2003): I live in Beaufort. There is almost no crime here so the overly large police dept must rely on the vicious speeders to break the monotony. They lie in wait for unsuspecting motorists quite frequently on hwy 101 and on West Beaufort Road. Also, they hassle boardwalk beer drinkers in downtown.

Comment (2/2004): The Beaufort Police do nothing but their jobs. They enforce state and local law as mandated. That includes other offenses besides traffic such as drugs and other violations. To make a long story short, if you dont break the law, you will not be cited. Remember, the speed limit through Beaufort is 35 mph. If you obey that limit, the chances of you seeing one of Beauforts finest happy faces is minimal.
