As one enters Shelton Road past the intersection of East University the speed limit diminishes to an absurd 35 miles an hour in this residental area. Be very careful. Cops hide in several streets off shelton road to fill their quota for the day. As I read once, police keep speed limits absurdly low to maintain revenue distinctively high. Such as the case here.

Comment (1/2003): Cops don't set the speed limits, city councils do. We just enforce them. The area you are talking about is a residential area and is a primary walk route in the mornings and afternoons, for children walking to school. If you got popped on this road it is because you were doing at least 15 miles per hour over the limit (ie 50 in a 35). As for revenue the police dept actually sees very little for tickets, most of the money goes to the court systems and the general state fund. Might want to get your facts straight before you go spouting off about something you apparently know very little about, other than the fact that you were violating the posted speed limit. Oh yeah, we don't have a quota either.

Comment (08/2007): Whoever the \"professional\" police officer is that posted the same comments 3 times probably runs his radar as well as he posts comments. What a doof!

Officers sit on both sides of the road. Going toward Samford, you can see them on the left side of the road on a dirt access road well hidden behind trees and bushes. Going toward Shug Jordan, you can see them up on the hill on the access road to the back side of the Beef Teaching Unit. Both city AND university police use these spots, and always vary when they are there. Most of the time they are on one side or another, but I have seen them a few times on both sides of the road. There is also a white, unmarked university Police car that patrols the road. The speed limit going toward Samford slows down going up the hill from 50mph to 40mph, but flow stays around 50 or higher. (Insane college students.)

Corner of Webster and wire, In fat daddys parking lot. The area is county so not only do you see city cops but also state troopers. They hide next to the car wash.

Glenn is bad because the speed limit is 25 when it should be 40-45. They hide on the side of the road between college and donahue, they also sit in the dirt area on donahue near the rail road tracks.

I've been hit twice now by this trap, so look out! Officers will sit in the parking lot of the Church, right before the bridge, where they can hit traffic coming from both directions. Because of the tree line, you can't see them if you're heading North towards University, and because of the building, you can't see them if you're heading South from University. Speed limit is 35, safe speed probably closer to 45 for that section, and 35 a little further down when it gets to the neighborhood.

On Glenn between Gay Street and Ross Street, Officers will wait in the parking lot of Felton Little Park and catch traffic speeding down the hill. You can't see them coming from Ross because of an apartment building and you can't see them coming from Gay because of a tree line. It's foolish to speed here anyways since it is near the police station, but the speed limit is about 10 miles per hour too low.

Anywhere around the "ring road" made up by Shug-Jordan Pkwy and E University Drive is likely to be patrolled regularly. I have been flashed a couple of times, but it was in the pouring rain so I wasn't stopped. I see someone stopped about once a day or more on average. Most parts the speed limit is reasonable, but 55 is a little unreasonable for the sections where the road in controlled-access and 4 lanes wide. The long curves in this road make it hard to see way ahead. Also, some Auburn cops use laser that won't activate a detector until they are right on you.

Oh yeah, we don't have a quota either.
